Day 51 - Charlie Revisited
Todays post is a little bit different. I'm actually using an old photo. But it's still a new image. Let me explain...
I was recently going through some of my old work to use as samples. On my short list was the shoot I did of Charlie and Jack. While perusing the photo's, I found today's image.
"Holy smokes! How did I miss this one?" And I know exactly why I missed it. Because I couldn't see it through the eyes I've got now. 51 days ago, this image was considered part of the junk pile. It had issues with lighting. The color wasn't what I wanted it to be. It was just blah.
51 days ago, this image was impossible. It was impossible because I lacked the skill to finish it. And that's a good thing.
It means that I've improved, however much or however little. And I've done so only a fraction of the way through this (admittedly difficult) adventure. And not just with my camera. But also with my eye for things and my ability to make the absolute most out of what I've brought home.
I've never been comfortable calling any of my work good. I've always found it much more helpful to break it down into categories and then classify those categories as "better" or "not better." It tells me where I'm weak. Where I'm strong. Where I can work harder.
So 51 days in, I'm happy that I can revisit an old image if only for the sake of not getting so wrapped up in the details. Because occasionally it's nice to look at something and say beyond self doubt: "That's better."

Day 31 - Panels Pt. 1: I'll Find You
This is the day I finally got back to illustration. I asked my facebook network what their favorite comic book panel of all time was and got several great responses.
This months suggestion comes from Jen. Thanks, Jen!
This was my first real stab at it an illustration in a LONG time. However, I think I learned some valuable lessons that I plan on taking to the next one. Things that will hopefully make for more of a "leap" than a "step" forward.
The original panel is from the comic Transmetropolitan. You can find the original panel here (warning: language).
